I chose these three disciplines because they are a part of a bigger story which is humanity’s evolution alongside climate change. As I’m in first-year Geography, these are things I would like to learn, and I plan to switch some electives to add some Economics courses.

I believe that these disciplines work well together, as Urban Planning requires Environmental Geography, which in turn requires Economic Geography. This is because to plan a city of the future, there needs to be additional weight on environmental impacts both in limiting emissions and incorporating environmentally friendly systems to already existing cities. All this requires knowledge of how the economy works and how a project would affect the economy of an area.

These disciplines would give me the possibility to have different points of view in the scope of why a change would be beneficial, why people might reject a change, and how a change would affect a region. As I planned to become an Urban Planner, these disciplines are a good foundation for having proper relations with different points of view.

Additionally, these are disciplines that have many other uses; they can be used to become a good Urban Planner, but they can also be used to become a Conservation Scientist or even to work in Finance after additional courses or certificates.

Overall, what I like about these disciplines is that they are both related and distinct from one another. This gives additional certainty that at the end of my studies, there will be something I will find interesting for my future career.
